Half-term week often means your usual groups pause and older siblings are at home. The routine that normally anchors your week can suddenly feel very different. This blog is here to give you simple, realistic ideas for your little ones. With under 5s, it is rarely about big days out, but about small, repeatable wins. Short activities, clear start times, warm indoor spaces and somewhere safe to run off steam can make all the difference.
Warwickshire half-term runs 16–20 February, and there are lots of options to explore. The National Trust was my favourite go to when my children were little with no extra costs after membership and picnic and outdoor space in abundance.
Below are some lovely baby & toddler friendly ideas across Solihull and South Warwickshire.
National Trust Visits
National Trust is such a gift in half term if you have membership. In my experience it takes the pressure off. You can arrive when it suits you, stay for as long or as short as works for your child, and there is always space to move.
Here are some brilliant local options:
Baddesley Clinton
A manageable site for little legs. There are open grounds, woodland walks and usually a simple trail during school holidays. It feels enclosed and safe which I always liked when mine were small.
Packwood House
Beautiful gardens with space to run and climb. The yew garden is great for hide and seek with toddlers and there is plenty of open grass for a picnic if the weather is kind.
Charlecote Park
A lovely wide open space with deer to spot. For toddlers it is often about the simple joy of a buggy walk, snack stop and looking at animals rather than doing everything on offer.
Baby and toddler classes running in half term
Half term can feel tricky when your usual rhythm disappears. A one off class with a clear start and finish time can really anchor the day.
Gymboree Play & Music Solihull
Gymboree runs sessions during school holidays. Soft play equipment, structured activities and music time can be ideal for babies & toddlers who need physical movement in a safe indoor space.
Adventure Babies Warwickshire
A lovely interactive time with your little one, based around a different story each week. Sessions are designed for babies and toddlers and include music, sensory play and simple props that bring the story to life. It is a calm but engaging way to spend a morning together.
Warwick Castle
Look out for themed holiday activities and family friendly shows during half term. For toddlers, I would focus on the outdoor spaces, simple experiences and the excitement of seeing a real castle rather than trying to see everything. Plan short bursts, snack breaks and an early exit before overtiredness sets in.
Beaudesert Park
A quieter outdoor option with woodland walks and open space. Perfect for a morning walk, welly boots and a flask. Sometimes the simplest half term days are the best ones.
Local libraries and warm indoor spaces
Never underestimate the power of your local library during half term. Warwickshire Libraries
Website
Libraries often run craft sessions or holiday activities. Even when there is no formal session, a cosy reading corner can be exactly what a toddler needs after a busy morning.
A gentle reminder
In my experience, half term with children works best when you choose one simple activity per day and build everything else around naps and snacks. You do not need to fill every hour. A morning outing, home for lunch and rest, and a calm afternoon can be more than enough.
